Training

Training the Business
The training of the business community in the use of a new business intelligence solution is inextricably linked to the data held within and accessed by the solution. This is far more the case with business intelligence and data warehouse solutions than it is with conventional transactional systems. Training can be broken down into three components:

1. Basic level tools training; this will enable someone to navigate the solution and access data, carry out some basic analysis and exploration and produce output either as a printed document or as a soft copy (.pdf or MS Excel).

2. Understanding the new ‘data’ solution. This is of particular relevance where there is a significant investment being made in producing a data warehouse, combining information from across the business and presenting this within a conformed dimensional framework.

3. Integrating the new tools into the existing business processes and those that are developing around the re-organised business. The most difficult of the three, people use the tools and techniques that they know, particularly when there is pressure to get the job done. In order to realise the benefits of the new tools and reduce the overall cost of producing management information then ongoing support and training is required to drive out the benefits.

In addition to the end user education process the developers and technical staf will need to be trained in Report Authoring, Building Business Scorecards and the overall architecture of the Logi solution.
